Our Facilities

The Major Modernization Project (MMP) helps ensure that Stony Brook University Medical Center continues to provide access to the latest medical advances and offer comfort and convenience to patients and their families. Phase one, completed fall 2008, with 154,000 square feet of new construction and 48,000 square feet of renovation, included a new wing housing a Women and Children's Center, a state-of-the-art Surgical Suite, and an expanded Emergency Department. Phase two encompasses an additional 105,000 square feet. In November 2009, we opened a new dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department-the first of its kind in Suffolk County. In the summer of 2010, ground was broken for the construction of a new Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Annex, which will provide separate areas for adults and children, and will triple the existing space for emergency psychiatric care. Phase two of the MMP also includes a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, completion of the Labor and Delivery Unit, and completion of the main lobby, including the construction of new office space.
