If you or a family member are affected by or at risk for developing Huntington's disease, experts at our Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) Center of Excellence at Stony Brook can help. As one of only five Huntington's Disease Society of America-designated Centers of Excellence in New York State, one of only 54 in the United States and the only one on Long Island, our Center provides a collaborative approach to Huntington's disease care and research. Patients benefit from expert neurologists, neuropsychiatrist, social worker, therapist, counselor, dietician, speech therapist and other professionals who have extensive experience working with families affected by Huntington's disease. On a positive note, while there is no treatment yet that can stop or reverse the course of Huntington’s disease, our compassionate team of experts can help individuals affected by the disease and their families. Our team will develop a patient focused treatment plan throughout the course of the disease and provide expert treatment in rehabilitation. You can also learn more about Huntington's disease, our team, and our expertise by watching this video, from our Huntington's Disease Awareness Month symposium, which took place on May 15, 2021.
We provide:
- Expert treatment for symptoms of the disease
- Referral to genetic counseling and testing
- Pre-implantation genetic screening with in vitro fertilization
- Social Work services and long-term planning
- Rehabilitation therapy services
- Opportunities to volunteer in research clinical trials
