Join our "Brains Against Cancer” Team at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event on campus
American Cancer Society's 5th annual Relay for Life campus event at Stony Brook University on April 25 (noon until midnight) serves as a powerful way to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer. With the support of thousands of student volunteers at Stony Brook and across the country, the American Cancer Society is helping to save 500 lives a day. The event brings the community together by helping people who are facing the disease, honoring cancer victims, and helping to ensure that cancer is a thing of the past for future generations.
This is the first year that students in the Stony Brook University Neurosciences Institute graduate program have formed their own team. Led by Nicholas Gallo, a student in the Doctoral Neuroscience program, and Luigi Pesce, a student in the Neuroscience Masters program, the “Brains Against Cancer” team encourages all members of the Neurosciences Institute to participate. Joining the "Brains Against Cancer" team doesn't require you to attend the event. Attendance is optional, but highly encouraged, for at least part of the event. This year, the University’s goal is to raise $50,000 in the fight against cancer.
The festivities begin at noon, when speeches and walks around the Stony Brook University Campus Recreation Athletic Fields are made, in honor of cancer survivors. The Campus Recreation Athletic Fields are located across from the train station on Circle Road.
Then, from 1 pm to midnight, there will continuous walks around the Athletic Fields by members of each of the Relay for Life teams, and many activities for the entire community.
