Join us on Friday morning, October 25, at the Medical and Translational Research (MART) Building Auditorium at Stony Brook University Hospital, for our annual Meeting of the Minds Symposium.
This year's topic is "Brain Injury and Coma."
Our keynote speaker is Nicholas Schiff, MD, the Jerold B. Katz Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience in the Feil Family Brain & Mind Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is an internationally renowned physician and researcher in the field of consciousness and neurophysiologic recovery from severe brain injury. Over 20 years, Dr. Schiff's research has led to the understading of basic mechanisms underlying recovery of consciousness and translating this understanding into major clinical advances for diagnosis and treatment. His laboratory has been continously funded by the National Isntitutes of Health for more than a decade. He will be speaking about central thalamic deep brain stimulation for treatment of cognitive deficits after traumatic brain injuries.
There will also be four speakers from Stony Brook presenting their research on the basic biology and translational potential of their research that can ultimately benefit those with brain injury who are in a coma.
Meeting of the Minds is free and open to physicians, other healthcare professionals, students and anyone interested brain injury and coma. Breakfast is provided and there will be a Q&A session after the presentations. We hope to see you there!
