We are happy to announce that Christopher Graffitti accepted the position as a PMHNP-BC in our Child Outpatient Clinic. Chris started on October 1st and will work to provide services for the Child Psychiatry department. We are incredibly thankful that he has agreed to join Stony Brook. Chris is a recent graduate from Stony Brook University’s psychiatric nurse practitioner program. After completing the program in May of 2020, Chris joined Stony Brook Medicine’s first psychiatric nurse practitioner residency program. The program was designed as a one-year rotation through various psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services of the hospital with the goal of developing and honing the skills necessary for independent practice. The final 6-months of the program focused on adult and child outpatient services through Putnam Hall. There, Chris would find his ultimate passion of working with the child and adolescent population.

Chris’s career began as a registered nurse at Stony Brook’s CPEP where he not only developed the critical thinking skills necessary to accurately assess and engage with his patients in a time sensitive manner but was also able to quickly build rapport with his patients that proved essential to their psychological well-being, during, arguably, the most difficult time of their life. It was during his time at CPEP where Chris discovered his ability to easily engage with children and make them feel more comfortable in a foreign environment. Over the next few years, Chris would continue to work while participating in the psychiatric nurse practitioner program.

Since his rotation into outpatient services, Chris has worked with a variety of childhood disorders that include ADHD, depression, anxiety, and ASD among others. Chris enjoys the intricacies of the family dynamic and its role in child and adolescent development.
